Penn State Safe & Aware

Stay true to yourself

Know that over half of Penn State students choose not to drink or drink lightly.

Based on a survey with University Park students, 62% of students said they don’t drink or categorized themselves as a light drinker.

Stay true to your personal values, and remember why you're here.

Make a promise to yourself not to let alcohol get in the way of all that you can achieve. Remember your educational goals and aspirations.

If you choose not to drink, try to form a group of core friends who aren't drinkers. As a group you can find lots of things to do together. As a first-year student, you may feel pressure to go to parties. Keep in mind that you can go out and have fun with your friends and not drink. Be confident in your decision not to drink and don't be afraid to tell your new friends. A true friend will respect your decisions.

If you choose to drink, use the safer drinking strategies covered in this learning module to help you make safe and smart decisions. If you ever need any help or more information related to alcohol or other health issues, contact your campus counseling or health services.

The opportunities at Penn State are endless. Take advantage of them and make your experience at Penn State one that you will be proud of.
